new pistons or block -> no slap
#1
In Subaru Impreza FAQ (sidc.co.uk) it is said that there are two
ways to get rid of piston slap:
"In the UK, Subaru have been resolving the problems by fitting
an a completely new short engine (block, crank, pistons) , and
this cures the problem completely"
"If the problem occurs on a normally aspirated engine, then a
simple piston replacement can be used"
So is it impossible to get permanent cure in turbo engine with
just piston replacement? What kind of pistons (original/forged)?
Or do I have to go for new short engine?
I'm asking this because my dealer can't tell the difference.
My car is MY98 Impreza Turbo and 31000 miles on clock.

Piston no.4 will be replaced, which is slightly oversized from the original spec part. Short engine was the original cure, now the modified piston is all that is replaced. Had this done in February with same age car and milage as you.

Thanks,
I just wanted to know if someone has replaced pistons
in turbo engine and the piston slap has gone. Now the
only question is will it be back Guess my car is
going to get new modified pistons if there won't be
any votes for new short engine.
I know the subject is done million times but now I
just have to decide how to fix it and then I'll shut up
