If you hold the clutch in for long enough over a period of time the release bearing will start getting noisy. IME this will take absolutely ages though so it's possible the clutch itself will be shagged before it gets to that stage depending on your driving.
Still good practice to put it into neutral unless you're trying to build up your thighs (well one of them!)

All that advice is good 600, standing with your car in gear for long periods is bad for the clutch plate, clutch release bearing, and the thrust bearing on the crankshaft. Its a good habit to knock it into neutral as soon as you stop in traffic.

Off on a tangent a bit but it is recommended with an auto to actually leave it in D and hold it on the handbrake, rather than selecting N and back to D as the torque converter has less work to do.
