Question

I had my sti8 for about 3 weeks now and have done around 1500miles in it. But what i have noticed when driving at 80mph or above the sides of the bonnet seem to lift. Im going back to dealer next week to have ppp fitted and was going to ask them about it.
But i wondered if any one else had had the same thing happen to there car.
It may be because of the alloy bonnet and the larger scoop.
My my97 did not do it but this had a steel bonnet.
I would be intrested to here from othe owners
Cheers

I got hit by the slip stream of a large truck, coming the other way, and thought that the scoop and bonnet had parted company for a split second.

I suspect you are correct and it is the fact that it is such a light bonnet that causes the problems. My scoop moves about a lot even at quite modest speeds. My last one didn't do this.

I have heard of a bonnet or scoop actually coming off in Germany at high speeds.
I have driven at 240 kph in my own STI8 on the german motorways with a lot of movement in the scoop and the hood without problems(so far) but I really am a bit worried about the movement.
My old MY00 with APS Club spec kit was doing about the same topspeed without this problem.
I suspect the alu-bonnet and the larger scoop could be the reason for this!

Mine acts up exactly the same, Above 80. If i have checked the Oil & water Etc before a long journey I get paranoid & think that i have not closed the bonnett properly, Pull over (people think Ha another scoob died)Check the bonnett all is fine & of we go again. Thought of pins but think they look a bit Naff for road Use.

Has anyone received any answers/solutions from Subaru UK about this?

I noticed it happening on an autobhan at about 120-130 and didn't dare go any faster as it looked like it might pop open.

the early "test" versions did have the bonnet scoops "fly off" when under test, so they did modify the mountings and clips for the scoops. But the bonnets will flex slightly, as you all appreciate, they are alluminium on these models. if you adjust the rubber corner stops, be careful as you may place too much pressure on the bonnet and cause it to flex when shutting the bonnet down, so it will either "bounce" and not lock, or if shut hard enough, will crease right above the lock assembly.
yes, it does happen, seen it many times before and costly to put right.

Are both sti and wrx bonnets interchangeables? Is the wrx one made of steel or it is made of alluminium too?

The bonnets are the same material on 03my's "Sorry1"
Both are alluminium. the only difference is the centre scoop height.

Question

Don't want to sound like a smart ar$e , but surely Subaru would have done some research and testing into whether the bonnet and scoop would stay in place at high speed if the car is capable of doing 150ish Mph At least I hope they did!!

Edited to add that it is a bit unnerving though when it starts moving about...(same happens on my STi8)
