Question

Is the metal rod on the tensioner suppost to go back into the tube easily. Mine is very stiff and I havent moved it yet. Im on about the cam belt tensioner. And do you line the mark on the cam belt to the arrow on the crank pulley or the mark on one of the little bits of metal that are closest to he block. The slash looking mark

Cheers Ronnie

first off you line the mark on the belt up with the mark on the little bits of metal.
Secondly i normallyuse a g-clamp to push the retainer in, it is very hard to push in.
if it is easy to push in (ie. by hand) it needs replacing..

Use a small allen key through the holes to hold it in once the rod is pushed in, once the belt is on and lined up, pull the allen key out..

Thumbs up

Cheers Rob,
Your a life saver, What about the cam marks. Ive lined them up but there slightly out. For example. the singl;e slash on the verniers is lined with the mark on the belt but because of the teeth on the belt you cant line it up perfectly with the line. What do you do?
Regards Ronnie

Get it as close as it will go to being in the slot, ie. have the line closer to the slot with the timing mark than the slot next to it..
Also, once you have the belt on and tensioned, to make sure it is ok rotate the belt one full rotation and check that the two dashes on each vernier correspond with the adjacent verniers dashes when the crank timing mark is alligned..
Think that makes sense??
worst case, tension the belt up and rotate one full revolution, if it is a tooth out when you line up all the timing marks you will know which way the vernier must be moved in relation to the mark on the belt..
