IMHO the mod route for these are:

Mesh hoses

Good fluid (Super DOT 4 or above)

Good pads (DS2500s seem to be very good for fast road use)

The above will get you better feel and stopping. You only need to go for aftermarket discs if you want to run track, or just hammer it to death on the open road (and no I am not condoning that before anyone starts ).

If uneven wear is bothering you up front, a set of 4 pots is bolt on. It is usually less of an issue at the rear, but it makes sense to get a look at the inside pads every now and again for peace of mind, IMHO.

If you are going for some serious schtop, yes, a set of discs will help. I run DBA5000s and 650 with all the above stuff (but my pads are Endless carbon metallic jobbies), and the can lose speed very quickly indeed

Personally, I would go for stock discs but with Ferodo 2500 pads as supplied by Alyn & AS Performance.
I thought with my GTB being heavier than an Impreza it would need 4 pots etc, but with those pads it stops just fine, even when pushing on abit.
