I would like to know what level of oil should be in before doing a track day - I have conflicting advice, some say have it between low and full to allow for expansion, so avoiding blowing seals and most seem to side on putting more than full in to allow for surge under braking in order not to starve the crank - any comments appreciated.

Thanks.

Ensure that you are close to the full mark when stood on level ground after a couple of minutes to let oil drain fully into the sump and check the level several times during the track day until you get to know you engines behaviour.
If you have an oil presure guage you can check for low pressure under extreme cornering force or braking but on the Subarus I have driven this has only been an issue with low oil level.
