ok, ok point taken brun.

thanks johnny, have you been through this before yourself or do you just know? i keep coming up against confusing transponder talk and folk saying complicated and depressing things like "wont work" and "main dealer"...

thanks for the speedy response guys, good old scoobynet.

Sorry but the MY97/98 ECUs DO need reprogramming when different keys are used.

The OEM immobiliser requires a trigger from the ECU and will switch off the fuel pump relay if the correct signal is not received - this will leave the check engine light on, a diagnostic check will show a fuel pump error (43?).

The ECU needs to be reprogrammed via a select monitor - unless you can be bothered to swap the surface mount EEPROM chips which the ECU uses to hold the key codes.

agree with andrewc they do need programming other wise if it was possible to code keys or wipe them by disconnecting the battery car crime would go through the roof

thanks all. spoke to the main dealer today and they say that i will need to reprog keys with the new ppp ecu, but that itll only cost half an hours labour. so thats probably only about a million quid. good news indeed.

thanks everyone for all your help

best wishes,
matt

Half an hour labour - it'll take 30 seconds!

Sorry I see you're in Norfolk - They'll probably have to get someone in to do it

Matt- before taking it to the dealer try fitting the ECU yourself, if it works you have saved money!

they are easy to change.

good idea johhny, im definiteley gonna do that, if for no other reason than not to give the main dealer my hard earned green (thats wot they pay us in out here. and you wondered why there was so many fields).

and your right andrew, my local dealer already has a mechanic on a ship from japan especially to deal with this giant technical problem. of course, when he arrives all his valuable parts will have been nicked but thats a different matter.

thanks again all,

matt

Jonny Gav - didn't you say the one you did last week was a MY99?

Completely different ECU/Immobiliser to a MY97/98.
