Question

Hello all

I have just purchased a MY02 4 door after driving BMW's for a while and now have the driving bug back again!

Anyway, my problem is that I am trying to fit a thule roof bar Rapid Fit system to this car. According to the catalogue on www.thule.co.uk I need

750 footpack
761 roof bars
1210 fitting kit.

The instructions tell me to set the footpack at position 35,5 for the front bars. This isn't possible with the 761 bars as there is not enough clearance to fit the bar ends.

Anyone successfully fitted a Rapid Fit system to a MY02?

cheers

Steve

You need to elongate the channel on the underside of the bar with an angle grinder if the minimum span of the bars is too large for the roof...

or if the max span of the bars is too small for the roof you need to buy the next size up bars, and then do the above...I use the 761 bar on my 94 wagon to get a large overhang.

Stick with the Thules... IMHO they are the best roof bars on the market, and the only ones I use on my cars.

The Mont Blanc roof bars from your dealer for ~£100 work really well. Quality is as good as the Thule.

They have a small bracket which bolts to the roof underneath the rain gutter. The bars then clip on and off within 2 mins and there's no risk of damage to your roof or door frames.

If you get rid of the Scoob you can sell them on for ~£75.
