Hi all

I have a my00 UK Turbo and have just replaced the turbo/intercooler hoses for Samco ones.... and very nice they look too!

But when I took the old hoses off there was a bit of oil on the inside of the hoses and around the entrance to the thottle body. It looked like engine oil but the motor doesn't use any.

Is this normal or should I get it checked out as it is under warrenty?

Any advice welcomed and sorry if it has been asked a thousand times.

Cheers

Carlos

It's pretty normal to find a small amount of oil inside the compressor housing or the hoses as it is impossible to totally seal a turbo against passing oil, if there is tons of oil it generally means the bearings in the turbo are shot.

No it's not tons just a slight coating. Thanks guys for your replies. am I correct in thinking that this is turbo oil and not engine oil? If so I'll keep a good eye on the levels until i'm convinced all is good.

Cheers

Turbo oil and engine oil are the same, your turbo recieves a feed from the engine, hence the reason you use fully synthetic<sp?> oil in turbo charged cars, it generally keeps it's viscosity better at higher temps, ie in your turbo, find out what oil your dealer uses and keep a top up can handy in your garage.

NTS

Thanks fella

After writing the last comment I went out to check the turbo oil and after a brief and unsuccessful search realised there was no dip stick for it...... just one looking for it!!!
