OK my car is not a well bunny. Turn her on and she keeps dropping to about 200 revs and struggling to tick over there. she will then just cut out and die. At one point i put my foot to the floor in neutral and she reached a massive 1500 rpm. Got the RAC out and she then started rattling on tickover as well. Had to get a lowloader out in the end. Is there anything i can check myself on this as the Canturury dealership seems to be closed and i dont like leaving her on the drive over night due to resent posts of peoples cars having parts stripped overnight.

Thanks

Have you checked all the pipe work for air leaks and that thet the dump valve isn't stuck and leaking air?

Sorry. Car is a my 97 sti v3. No mods except for a baileys atmospheric dump valve and zigen exhaust both of which have been on there for ages.

RAC checked for air leaks befor they towed me. Dont think they did anything with the dump valve though. I will have a look at that now.

Dump Valve seemed OK. It is going on a low loader to subaru now so they can have a look. Thanks for the replies.

That thought has crossed my mind. Some one told me that cause i put an atmospheric dump valve in plave of the recirc this would confuse the maf. Could this have just confused it to a point where it has given up?

When my legacy died with similar symptoms after months of perfect running it turned out to be a dirty MAF.

The dealer just cleaned it and it was back to normal.

Try cleaning it yourself with a cotton bud and brake cleaner / wd40.

Be careful though its a delicate bit of kit.
