got a slight knocking from engine
on 98 uk scooby turbo.
only slight on gentle revving.
goes or doesnt increase under med/heavy revs.
am i panicking or does this sound like big ends.
car has done 35000 miles.
any one else got /had this?

thats bad by the way.

 

did not think piston slap made a knocking noise and i thought that was when it was cold as soon as up to temp it was not as loud

 

Dunno? Do a search and see what you come up with

 

seriously check the idler pully first. I have had major knocking for about 3 months. Dealer diagnosed it as piston slap as did many others. Knocked like mad from cold till about 15-20 miles. Turned out to be the idler valve costing very much less than a new short block

The knocking was so bad it was like a heavy banging, and even i have trouble believing it but it was the belt smacking against the pulley.

Hope its not piston slap though.
