was looking at a guys car today (94 WRX) and asked him what mods his car had.
he replied 'oh a hks exhaust and a superchip!'
as his car was standard apart from this i asked him if i could check the boost setting on the car just to see what it had been set at by the superchips dealer.
plumbed in the boost gauge as he didn't have one in the car and off we went.
asked him to spool it up in 3rd gear and............1.4 fecking bar!!!!
no wonder superchips have such a bad reputation for blowing up subaru's
he said the superchips dealer had said the car is safe to run at this pressure!
i advised him to get it turned down or his engine would be at risk.
1.4 bar on a standard wrx in my opinion is far too much, anyone know if this is what superchips advise their dealers to set them at???

I've heard of WRX engines with exhausts blowing up at 1.1 bar when the boost was just turned up and no attention was paid to monitoring.
I think a 94WRX would be safe to run at 1.4 bar if you also did the following:
Knocklink
Boost gauge
FMIC
Uprated uppipe, and inlet tract to turbo
Uprated fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, bigger injectors if you are holding the top end up
Front entry turbo conversion
So in essence monitoring, breathing, temperature control and upgraded fuelling.
Other than that big risks....

I hate to think what the temp of his intercooler would be at that pressure.
