Bit of a bugger really - understatement......
Went up to watch the Sat stages of Rally NZ at Paparoa.
Made it up ok, a a fairly high speed, no worries.
Came of the main highway, onto the smaller road and within a few km the engine started to make a tapping sound. This gradually turned into a painful sounding metalic scrapping sound.
Rather then drive the car, I had it transported to a Subaru main dealer on Sat, only $500 !! The car today (Mon) hasn't moved therefore Subaru probably have not even looked at it yet.
Anyway, I guess this will be a big, expensive engine strip down, beyond just taking the head off etc.
Question is, if they go that far, are there any sensible internal engine mods worth doing. Would be nice to know cost vs performance gain !!
Also, clutch may need doing soon, is now a good time ??
Car is a WRX Type R V Limited coupe. Supposidely 280 bhp engine from what I read at SIDC FAQ. This is not an STI Type R, which is supposed to have stronger internals. I guess the result is proof !?! Up to now the car is un-modded.
Also, car may be exported to Australia which I beleive have strict emmission laws, unlike NZ where a full decat is legal !!
So for any internal mods, will emmisions change ??
Any comments will be appreciated.

Speak to PerFOURmance motorsport (www.pms.net.au), they are based in Australia and offer a wide range of packages. This is where I bought my highly uprated 2.5litre engine from, and other uprated items

exploded conrod...
...so how much was that then, and did you treat this as an oppotunity to change a few things, or just go for a straight repacement ??
pms.net.au...
...pms suggested a 2.2L stroker kit at AUD 5,000 +p&p.
Mmmmm, didn't consider that as an option.
I'll have to ask a few questions on a new thread !!
