Question

What would happen to the clutch plate if oil had leaked onto it (from a diff) ??

Its not a scoob, its a Renault Clio Sport.

Would the clutch be knackered and require replacing, or would it just need cleaning.

Dave

Exclamation

Dave - we had a Corsa many moons ago which had a leak in the main oil seal in the gearbox which resulted in the oil contaminating the clutch.

Ended up getting the car replaced (as it was only a few months old), but they did offer to change the clutch at first.

IMHO the diff isnt really anywhere near the clutch??
However, if for whatever reason the clutch has oil deposits on it, it all depends on to what extent.
If it has lots of oil on it which may have soaked into the plate i would deffo replace it, if it is a very small ammount then clean the clutch plate and cover with brake n clutch cleaner.

Thumbs up

Yeah Dave, durh

If it's just a lil bit splashed on it will just burn off in time, a constant stream of oil would deffo knack the job though

Also it's unlikely to be oil coming from the diff, more likey the main shaft (which in fairness uses the same oil as the diff) or the crankshaft, ie engine oil

If its just a splash clean it off with coke! Or powder fire extinguisher. Used both before.
