Intercooler Water Spray
#1
Hi
Got a V7 STI Impreza with a I/C Water Spray button on the dash. A few questions if someone can help.
1) Is it "Ice Cool" or "Intercooler" ?
2) What does it do for the engine ?
3) When do I do it ?
Thanks
Marcus

1) Intercooler.
2) It sprays water onto the top mounted intercooler, which means the air passing through it is cooler, and therefore denser, meaning there is more oxygen forced into the engine and more oxygen = more vrooom.
3) On a hot day, or when you've been in slow moving traffic just before you floor it, but doesnt the STi 7 have an auto setting?

Type UK has manual only, hit the button and it sprays for 5 secs or so.
General opinion is that it's only there to allow the rally cars to fit one. They can't fit a spray unless the road cars have one. But the method of control on the rally car is not restricted by FIA regs. So the rally car gets a spray controlled by all singing and all dancing, ecu, throttle position, boost, inlet temp, outlet temp and the road car gets whatever's cheap, which is manual.
Someone said a while ago that the best performance gain from the road system is to lighten the car by using the spray as much as possible until the tanks empty. Sad but true.
