Hunting on idle - cleared with a blip of the throttle.. all of the searches I've done are confirming my worst fears but I just wondered if there could be any other cause of the hunting? Its an MY99 and has never had an induction kit on. Mileage is 30k. Its a UK car. Will a select monitor confirm that the MAF is on its way out?
Thanks in advance

Select will not confirm its on its way out, merely confirm when it is dead.
Start the car, leave it idling and then unplug the maf, quite easy.
If the engine changes its manner in whcih it idles then it suggests to me that it is NOT the MAF but something else.
If the engines manner stays the same then it would suggest it is the maf.
It could be your idle control valve.
If you want another MAF to test it, see if you can borrow someones, only takes 5 minutes. If you cant, let me know, and i will mail you one of my spare ones, if i can find it, for you to try.

Had similar problem, used deltadash to diagnose a faulty oxygen sensor (wasn't completely bust so didn't produce a fault code). DD would be able to diagnose faults with MAF as well.
If you're in the Midlands region I could hook you up on my deltadash and have a look-see.
Cheers

Cheers guys - so it could be a faulty 02 sensor too?
That would make sense. Dyney and myself have been trying to get the lambda link working and we're only getting .25 volts across the multimeter with no fluctuation..
Gonna try a new probe ASAP

Suspected the MAF on mine as you did - but after connecting the two black wires under the dash (kindly suggested by the more knowledgeable on here!) the Check engine light flashed the code 32 - Lambda sensor failiure.
Fitted new one - Bingo!

I'm having the same prob, but mines also stalled three times in the past couple of months, usually while slowing into a corner and dropping down to second gear. It's going to the dealer on Tuesday (warranty). Will they try telling me 'they all do that'?
