robin,
is this the first engine that you have lost, I though it had just recently been rebuilt?.
I think you will find your early wrx has the same block as a RA.

Sorry to hear that Robin I can vouch for you running it in at low boost setting from that day at Star performance.
FWIW When I opened up my RA it had std cast internals, same as WRX.

Perhaps more relevant than the forged pistons or closed deck is why the original failed and the history of the one you might be getting.
What model is it, what mods, and what were the conditions of failure? Not sure if this was the car you had when I saw you last since I thought you were selling?
Not aware of any engine differences between RA and non RA like there are between WRX and STi. However, some of the earlier STis I gather had various mouth watering options lists and so spec tends to vary more between them.

If the RA and non RA are bassically the same engine, how does it come that an RA can rev to 8000rpm ??? and make 280bhp instead of my 218bhp (EuroType MY2000)....
I wanna have the 8000rpm, and not only on my tacho !!!!!

robin,
I think, as JB has said, you need to find out why this has happened again, so soon after a rebuild.
did the tuning company have any ideas why the first engine let go?
did they give you any warnings after the rebuild, such as possible fuel pump, regulator or injectors problems maxing out on the high boost setting?, I am possibly thinking of the wrong car but do you not have a trick low/high boost switch, what turbo do you have and what was high boost?.
did they use new parts or second hand and exactly what parts were changed?
a full list of your cars spec would help, ecu, standard or up-rated fuel pump and reg, standard or big injectors, breathing mods etc.

hi guys,
new mota enroute, ra closed deck block, ex scooby sport,
i am taking off the 2 stage boost controler, collins chip, and may go back to a air box with a k+n filter, this will mate with a full magnex decat system and only be running std boost, then the motor should last!! it will also have the (new) big oil cooler fitted, and as funds allow a fmic, and yes knock link will be ordered!!!!!!!!! i already have a afr,
thanks for the advice, beers to be bought!!

I feel as though i must let you all know what the score was with robins car, As there is always two sides to a story one of witch being the truth. the simple fact is that the car was running too high a boost psi for what robin had spent on it,
there was no fuel pump upgrade or fse fuel pressure requlator to control the fueling on the car as robin skipped on this.
As well as saftey products like a knocklink e.t.c
The engine rebuild that we had been instructed to carry out on this car after it melted a piston at knockhill was not what we recommended (new shortblock) he decided to do it on the cheap by just replacing the melted piston with a new genuine subaru one this was done at his request against our recommendation.
All parts supplied and fitted were all genuine subaru as we use this only on rebuilds.
After the problems with the childish manner that we had to put up with when we were asked to do the wheel studs and the ap brake kit problem. (were fitted to ap instructions)
He lost the plot about the brakes. And took it out on us and A P
When the car was finally collected we were glad to see the back of him only to get a call 20mins after to tell us it had popped this was no surprise to us as it did'nt sound healthy from day one
it arrived.
Only if some customer would listen to what we recommend these situation could unavoidable.

I don't want to open a can of worms here but in my own opinion AWD seem to me to be on the level with their rebuilds.
I had my engine rebuilt by them last July and it still runs OK now after 10,00 miles with 320 bhp and 320 ft/lb through it (Although the STI/P1 clutch is slipping now with the excess torque B#LL###S)
In the end they cannot be held responsible for building the engine so standard spec only to have it blow up as it was running (I assume) the same power spec as B4. You have to uprate stuff if you want more power. This is why Myself and Martin push very hard onto our customers the importance of AFR's, Knocklinks, and uprated fuel pumps as we do not want to give a customer more power without keeping a reliable safety margin.
Russell (Cheap deal on an Uprated clutch then Grant?)

Just a point on your clutch, it's not slipping due to too much torque, it's knackered !!
A standard UK/Sti clutch in good condition will hold 380 lb-ft no problem

Robin, are you the bloke that I went out in the black Wrx with about 4 weeks ago at JVS when I was wondering about using them to source a Scooby ?
If so then your 'quick' (!!) drive helped persuade me that a Wrx was the way to go and there's now a met blue '95 wrx on it's way from Japan for me.
Sorry to hear about the bang and I hope you get it all sorted out asap.
Andy
(If I'm mistaken about who you are then sorry but it's a bit late and my brain is not functioning well tonight (nightshift))

Hi Coulty,
I've not even got any photties of the beast yet (hopefully will have tomorrow) so I'm feeling just a little frustrated : got about 5 weeks to wait for the car to get shipped over so it's count the days until then - Guess your's may be on the same boat if it was sourced by andy on his last visit. This is also my first Scoob and I can hardly wait - Sti2 sounds luverly, there's a met blue Wrx coming for me !
