Hello all,
Just bought a my99(T)uk turbo dbm and have a couple of questions you can help me with. Car is completely standard.
1. When turning the ignition on what lights come on as i dont seem to have any warning lights come on, on the left hand side.
ie, FUEL LIGHT, KEY SYMBOL ETC
2. Do all imprezas run lumpy on idle, mines about 600rpm
Sounds as if its missing ie running on three cylinders and going to cut out when in traffic.
The car runs ok when driving normally and has plenty of pull when opened up.
Will be grateful for any replies as am to the ones already received.
cheers everyone

They can be a bit 'lumpy' but you should IMMEDIATELY get it to a dealer and check that the MAF sensor is ok. This could be a very expensive prob and if left unattended could cause the engine to run lean and in the worst case go boom
Can't help with ignition lights but they should be showing.
Good luck

I drive a bugeye so the dash is different cant help there.
As for lumpy tickover I think they all do that.
A note about the dash lights.....dont read on if easily worried,
I had a Citroen BX 16v which had dash light that didnt light up when turning the ignition, one of which was the engine check light, the car died on the m62,and I later doscovered that the bulbs had been taken out of certain holders brake warning and engine check being two of them.

I bought an my99 rb5 which is basically the same only about a month ago and my first worry was that it was stalling on idle, this progressively got worse until it was stalling as i was slowing down for roundabout, traffic light etc.
As recommended on here i had it checked out and found my MAF sensor had packed up causing the car to run very lean, You need to get this seen to immediately ,to buy and install a new sensor at a main dealer cost around £90 if i remember correctly.
Theres a whole load of reasons why this sensor can pack up but mine was because i was running an HKS air induction kit which i have since replaced with the subaru recommended ram air filter....Im presuming your air filter is standard?

They do seem to idle very low, MY99 uk idled at about 600.
Without trying to insult your intelligence, they always sound like they're running on 3 cylinders, its the horizontally opposed engine and unequal length manifolds that create the lumpy sound.
Of course the other option is - it has a fault and is only running on 3 cylinders.

600rpm idle
My MY00 has always idled around 750-800rpm, 1500rpm on start then drops back down gradually whilst the engine warms up.... 600 seems very low to me.
