I installed a Boost Gauge the other night to my 93 WRX after getting a Hayward and Scott down pipe and a magnex centre and Back box and to my surprise when flooring it in 5th the boost Gauge shot up to 21psi , now I thought this should only peak at around 16psi.
Now I am worried it’s going to go pop or something?? Any ideas to why this would be running so high??
Thanks
Simon

Your engine and turbo would probably be reasonably happy at 21 PSI if you had no detonation, temperatures and breathing were managed and the fuel system was up to the job.
But the car as you have it should not boost this high. Check the wastegate duty solenoid for oil clogging, check for leaks on the supply to the actuator, check movement on the wastegate. By using a decat exhaust you make the boost harder to control by the ECU - some cars are worse than others. If it all seems OK then you can reduce the size of your solenoid vent restrictor to lower the boost peak. Might also be a good point to buy a knocklink. I would be surprised if you car is not detting at 21 PSI as things are at present.

Don't have pics. It is I gather in the bottom pipe that comes off the 3 port solenoid in the wing and recircs to the intake (have only fiddled with MY99 onwards cars so the above is based on other people's info).

21 PSI somethings got to give
On the waste gate control valve remember
On a 2 pipe system increase restrictor size to reduce boost
On a 3 pipe system decrease restrictor size to reduce boost
If yours a a 2 pipe system you could probably drill through
the restrictor .
