Do these clog up or something as recently my Forge VTA dumpvalve (my99) is noticeable quieter than usual, can they be cleaned out?

cheers,
simon.

Hiya snow, i'd be interested to see if anyone knows this one because my mate has put one on his RB5 and it sounds very....er......weak!! I have one on my MY00 and it sounds great.
Initially we thought that it was a red spring thing but upon getting a blue one, we opened it and a blue spring was already in it.
Doesn't seem to affect the car though, still got that RB5 smoothness about it

Mikey,

I'm not sure, but perhaps your mates one needs some shims inserting inside to get it to make noise? Get him to give Forge a call and ask them.

Cheerio

Exclamation

If it sounds weak and not much air is coming out, the spring is too strong, so shims would worsen it. Unless its so weak its leaking anyway?

He probably has the red spring where he needs a blue one from Forge. (just realised you checked that...) Mine came with a spare blue spring, where the one fitted was blue, but had red grease all over it. I hand tested the springs and they were different in strength, which was confusing.

If the vent holes are a bit clogged it may deaden the sound. It would be worth taking it off and stripping it for a clean. The air that goes through it does have some oil vapour in there.

Snowcrash,

Is it much better now ? Mine seems a little pants in all fairness!!

What about changing the springs, do you think we should try that ?

yeah since i've cleaned it out its louder than when it was new - the colouring on the spring seemed to have flaked off and mixed with the original grease therefore not making it greased and sound quiet i reckon

i'm waiting for the "blue" spring to arrive from forge as well hopefully it will be here before the weekend and i can fit and test

I have one on my MY01 it has a blue spring and now three spacers supplied by Forge as it was not holding boost. The only time I get any noise from it is on full throttle gear changes. Forge confirm that this is how it should work. Before the three spacers I was getting noise on part throttle changes but as I have said it was not holding boost.

Phil,

I fitted the Blue spring today (came in the post this morning)..

my first thoughts was i initially disliked the sound (it makes it sound like an escort cossie - i.e. same as turbo's old car with a dumpvalve)..

BUT an interesting side effect is that (after 10-15mins of driving) letting off throttle at .5 bar boost 50% of the time causes a flame out

so in one way i don't like it (no chatter) the other way i do (more flames)...

How do you know it flames? I can never tell. It bangs at .5 bar release but it doesn't neccisarily flame. Must get someone to follow me

i've been followed and they noticed

louder bangs usually mean flame out although i've never had huge ones i don't think... people have also spotted bluish flameouts from it too (with the red spring / chattering)...

yellow spring is a bit of a disapointment..

anyway (vid of car with blue spring below) :

http://clanspace.colute.net/scooby/a...house-divx.avi (6.2MB)

you need to have divx5 codec installed (http://www.divx.com) and right-click and save-as the file to your hard disk first ! then play it!...
