Has anyone out there owned both of these marks, I would love some comparisons....? Doesn't have to be the specific dates...!!

a MY99 or MY00 would probably be best.
The ECUs can be remapped as is, and there is slightly more power as standard. Also most people with older cars seem to buy body kits and bits to make their cars look more like a MY00 anyway.

Looks aside, there are a few differences
Earlier cars have 2pot front brakes, later have 4pots although both need uprating from OE spec to be honest.
Problems with piston slap seemed to be more apparent in MY98 models.
The earlier cars have bigger turbos, but smaller intercoolers and less advanced ECU's
I think spring / damper rates were changed also.
But generally the basic engine / chassis design hasn't changed, just been improved on over the years.
hope this helps

Ian,
Had : UK MY95 std
Have: NL MY99 + tek3 + decat downpipe
MY99 is (now) less laggy and stacks quicker, has better seats, nicer steering wheel and of course looks better with the revised front-end and slightly raised rear spoiler. Ride is much firmer.
MY95 was better built, had interior map lights and (IMHO) better designed heating controls etc. MY95 felt faster standard than MY99 when that was standard - probably down to the superior push from the bigger turbo when it spooled up.
If you plan to keep the car for a few years, better trade up to a low mileage, newer model and get the Ecu remapped.
An older high-mileage car will cost more in servicing and parts than the newer car, but will lose less in absolute terms when it comes to resell as it costs less to buy in the first place.
Mods will be equally expensive for both of course!!

If you really want the MY97 and onwards styling, get a replacement bonnet & headlamps etc
I am thinking the same sort of thing as DW above - the up to MY96 models have been around a while and are understood well by enthusiasts. (means cheaper mods etc. )

Have recently replaced brake pads with high performance ones due to brake fade....Ok the brake fade is less now but I seem to have warped my disk...Lol. So I have been thinking of a brake upgrade already brakes I think then more power:=)
