Question

Hi, just bought my second Scooby - but after a couple of days I've noticed a kind of knocking noise coming from the engine. I phoned up my local Scooby garage and they reckon its something to do with the piston and quoting me a possible £1500 to fix if thats the problem. I know there was piston problems on the 98 but mines a 97. Any suggestions what it could be and does that quote sound about right if it is the pistons ( I don't trust these garages)

Er, hang on a Mo', it might be the timing belt tensioner,as they do produce a quite loud knock/bang, moreso from cold, so dont just accept the first noise diagnosis you get, best to get 2nd opinion first as may work out cheaper and simpler.
