Exclamation

Just had a phone call from Sal down in Wales at the moment - the Check Engine light has just come on. The car (MY01) is due for it's 30K service (booked in on Monday) and the current mileage is nearly 30900 - is the check engine light programmed to come on if you go over a certain mileage and the service hasn't been carried out yet? (i.e. do they reset this at service). The car does have a sensor override for the decat exhaust and I have known this to need resetting in the past - so it could be this aswell.

Any ideas or do I need to call out Subaru assistance?

Cheers
Chris

Chris AFIK check light will only come on if a potential problem has been detected, not to indicate a overdue service.
To be on the safe side i would call Subaru Assistance but from my experience they only send a local garage who can help with basic problems, a check light problem would probably have to wait till a main dealer is open( may not be the case everywhere though )

Cool

Thanks Simon - thought as much - just wanted to check. Am I right in thinking that if the problem is really serious, the ECU puts the car into 'limp home' mode - which is indicated by a flashing check engine light on the dash?

Yes, i think serious faults are indicated by a flashing light.

Thumbs up

Simon - you might want to forward the email to my hotmail account (c_leppard[no spam]@hotmail.com (remove the 'no spam' bit)) - I think there might still be a few DNS probs at the moment.

you might want to take a look at my posts earlier today. i had the same problem and you can tell what the fault code is by linking the two black plugs just above your pedals. my fault was 33 ie 3 long blinks followed by 3 short blinks. i joined the green connectors as well drove the car for a couple of miles and then when i got home undid the connectors and the ecu had reset. no flashing check engine light anymore. i still need to connect my speedo cable tho so i expect the light will come on soon again.

cheers
