I've been experiencing some probs with my legacy re 'bad tick over' and feeling a bit 'lumpy'.

I've taken it to a garage in Cardiff and they tell me that the dumpvalve is leaking.

I have a Bailey DV (piston)

Firstly, can this happen??

And they can fit a new one for me for £100, but it is a Collins DV twin piston.

I have never heard of these......

Any suggestions???

The car is at the garage now and have to pick it up tomorrow.

They'll fit the DV for me to see if I like it. If not they'll take it off and only charge me for the diagnostic.

£100 is cheap, is it one that goes TSKKKKKKKKK, or is it a recirc one? Bailey's would have been a VTA, this sounds too cheap to be a VTA.

We fit them to Impreza's (Mine being a legacy), but it's down to your choice......

So I don't know..........

Sounds very possible, but if it is a bailey, then someone may have fitted the wrong dump valve in the first place. ie not one for a car with an airflow meter.
Was the bailey one fitted recently??

Nop...... it's been there for a few years.....

I've had the car for at least 18 months and it's been fine...

I have been having a look around the net and bailey have 2 'new' dv...... dv 24 and 26.

The latter for cars with air flow meters.... (Excuse me... I'm not technically minded)

I thought that as they were pistons, it took away the possibility of breakage??

Lumpy?
Not sure if a dodgy/leaking BOV would be 'lumpy'? Bad tickover, yes, but lots of other things could do that as well...
But from what the garage has said, it's probably a good idea to try it as if it doesn't fix the problem, or you don't like it, they swap it back anyway, so seems OK to me!

I had the collins twin piston dv fitted to my legacy turbo it sounded really good and I had no problems with it, I got mine from demon tweeks if you are interested in seeing what it looks like.

Nom, it feel less responsive at the moment you move on or off the throttle......

...... possibly as a direct result to the leak on the BOV???

.... does it sound about the right price?? and has the Collins DV been around for a while?? as the bailey one has??

I've tried looking them up on the net, but there's nothing on them. Don't suppose you've got any bumff on them or a picture....

I'm abit curios now..... quite like having things that are not that common...

It could be a twin piston dump valve by baily but the secondarey valve spring may be to week for the vacum created by your engine.I dont know if baily do differnt spring for adjustment but forge dump valves do & hks ones are adjusted by a nut on the end.

I got charged about £170 to buy and have it fitted so £100 sounds quite good to me. I have pictures but I do not know how to send them on to the net, but I can tell you its chrome and looks pretty impresive when you lift the bonnet.

Well then....

Went to the garage and they demonstrated that the car would idle correctly with the dv disconnected and the pipe blocked up....

mmmmmmm

They fitted the Collins DV and took it for a road test....

ALL sweeeeet...... the Collins DOES Sound very nice.....

A MUCH Crisper pssssssstttt that the bailey....

I had difficulty hearing the Bailey DV over the HKS Ind Kit....

But now there is a definate sound from the HKS and one from the DV.... There's almost a split second delay.... just enough to notice the difference

Would this be anything to do with the twin piston DV?? Just wondering ??? not being technically minded

In the end it Cost £150 all in

For the diagnostic and the DV.... Sound reasonable??

I thought it was..... just glad to get it fixed
