ECU TEK 2/3 - Difference??
#1
Can someone please explain in detail (technical speak) the difference between the TEK 2 and 3 remaps? I the TEK 3 a full custom remap, and TEK2 just an off the shelf flash of the ECU to reprogramme??

tek2 is EcuTek/PE's base remap - similar to the PPP in that it is suitable for a wide range of cars without changes. It can cater for exhaust and induction upgrades well.
tek3 is a custom remap around a particular car and whatever modifications it has. Depending on what mods you've got, and whether the tuner has had experience of mapping around them previously, it can take from 4-6 hours to much, much longer
Depends what you want really - technically speaking they're both the same. The ecu is reprogrammed with a set of lookup tables (maps) to operate the car.

...to add, much more performance should be available from the Tek3 as it doesn't need to have such a wide safety margin (that doesn't sound good - what I mean is it doesn't need to cope with, say, the different flows between a 2.5" exhaust with 2 cats and also a 3" exhaust with none like the Tek2 does).
The Tek2 effectively restricts what you can use it with - in particular, it is set up for the TD04. Stick in a VF22 & it will not cope very well at all! The Tek2 map then needs to be adjusted to fit the VF22, making it a car-specific map, and therefore a Tek3.
