Clutch judder?
#1
sometimes my clutch judders slightly when pulling away - it only happens occasionally and seems to be when it's cold or when I rev a bit more than usual....any ideas? If it's clutch wear, where's the best place to buy another clutch from and how much (it's a '97P STi with abot 48k on the clock).

Tony,
I'm not going to live with it. car goes in soon to have a new clutch under the extended warranty. I previously had a new one under the original 3 year warranty. I expect the judder will return but I should get a few thousand miles of judder free motoring and a new clutch which is one less thing to worry about having to replace.
If the car in question is out of warranty then I agree with Tony live with it.....I know it's a pain but not worth the cost of a new clutch to try and put right.

Subaru are bringing out a completely new clutch system. I have been told by Subaru that they will replace my clutch under warranty, but they will do it when the new system arrives (which is soon) as replacing it with the current system will only bring back the problem at a later date.

When did you the juddering [is that a word ? ] start? I have 5000kms on mine, and it has started in exactly the way you describe, especially when leaving the house in the mornings. Mind you, 'cold' here is not quite the same as 'cold' in Blighty! I only have a 6-month warranty, with 4 months to go - I am aware that the clutch and gerbox are known to be a touch fragile - but have I set a record?

sorry, but have seen clutch judder as low as 1000 miles, but please dont live with it, no other cars does, so get back to your dealer, modified bitz are soon to be available, so join the waiting list now and dont loose out on any warranty claim. it costs enough to buy a warranty, so let someone else foot the bill..

I was told the same as WRX_Blue back in September when I had the ok for my second replacement under warranty. Checked last week and still no sign of the uprated parts, so I guess those who got them fitted earlier in the year have still got a problem. Or is it a stalling tactic by Subaru?

Scoobyslut,
i take it you mean the lightened P1 flywheel and clutch to resolve the clutch judder problem?
Except that doesnt work so you will have to live with it
The only real cure is to replace the clutch with an after market version (AP or Helix) but for 30 secs worth of judder in the morning (which even then isnt too bad and thats only if it catches me out as i normally slip the clutch a little as this stops it ) then its not worth the hassle IMHO (and any MY01 onwards doesnt have the clutch covered under warranty anyway so......
Guy,
Just take them an after market one that you know wont give you any trouble its just that given a few k miles and you know its going to be juddering again

True Tony, but I have to have a Subaru supplied part due to it being a warranty fix. At least this way I get a new clutch which means I'm good for another 30000 miles at least, plus the judder goes away for a while and the fac they have replaced the clutch shows they have accepted it as a fault and if! a new judder free clutch assembly is released (I very much doubt this) then I should be again able to have this fitted under warranty should the judder return.
