My mate has just brought a STI 3 and when he puts his foot down in it the boost seems to cut and the check engine light flashes on but the light flashes randomally aii the time to we think it is boost n e way.

 

Sounds like over-boost, possibly with the colder weather too. Seek aftermarket ECU (safer setting) to up the pressure setting or cheaper (not so safe as its a manual controller) method is Dawes device.
