Hi Guys and Girls,
Just got a brand new shiny WRX sports wagon. Not looking to spend too much money on improving performance. Seems like back box and air filter is the way to go for mild performance improvement. I'm thinking of a Magnex back box/cat back system (cat replacement pipe?) and K&N replacement air filter. What sort of power gains can I expext? Is the magnex system loud? If the cat is removed does the exhaust noise get significantly louder? Are there any other mods that are good and relatively cheep? Can the boost be raised at all without the need for a rolling road tune/management remapping? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the BBS
Best bet for choosing a back box is to hear a few at a meet!
Cat replacement pipe and b/box with a panel filter is a good start and you will notice a differance. Make sure there aren't any warrenty issues with the dealer first though!!!!!!
As for uping the boost a Dawes device is a good place to start (not sure about fitting it to a new WRX thought) Again get along to a meet and ask others what they have tried
If you do up the boost it is best to get it checked out on the rollers to make sure the fueling is adequate! Or fit a AFR meter/Lambda link.
I don't think the dealer will be very pleased if you leave a boost controller fitted for the service though!!
Iain.

You can buy a dawes device from
www.j-w-racing.com
i think its best to buy it with a boost gauge so u make sure you dont go too far. best thing to do is fit boost gauge see what boost you get, then fit the dawes and adjust to orignal boost, then develop from there. As far as the K&N replacement filter goes, there have been issues on MAF failure etc. search for it and you'll get loads of results. And welcome to the forum!!
