Sounds rough when cold

Do all Imprezas sound a bit rough when cold?
My 97 scoob sounds really rough when I first start it up and drive it 1000-2000 revs, but once it has warmed up it sounds fine.
Is this normal???????????done 48,000 miles.......

These always end up leading to the "I think my car's got piston slap" threads....
Which in turn makes us all *really* paranoid about how gruff scoobs are when cold.
Was so concerned I had the dealer take a look (from cold) at the last service - no diagnosable fault (ehh - that's also what they say when you've got PS... ).
Anyway (beer rambling).... Yes - they're all pretty feckin gruff at startup (especially in Winter).

Listers worcester were fairly sure my 98 has piston slap without listening to it. If its not tappets, what else couls it be? they reckoned that at one stage the were doing new pistons in all the sports & turbos that they had through. Nice thought- Sorry!!!
