CHIPPING

Does £40 sound reasonable?
Edited to add:
Fitting is as simple as:
1) Remove ECU, and open case.
2) Stick chip in chip socket.
3) Cut resistor labeled J1
4) Grin...(lots)

The overall opinion of Chipping, on Scoobynet is not good. It has been described as an expensive way of raising the boost and the fuel cut, and possibly not safe for ya motor.
There are better ways to do things. ie: Dawes.

Paul, I also have 93wrx with a unichip fitted at powerstation, vast improvement in bhp/torque power comes in lower down rev range, still uses dawes, raised fuel cut.for the price i would recomend it.

Brun - the cheap boost raise that isn't highly regarded here is I believe only superchips, most other chips do change the fuelling etc. I have heard it said that you should not put a dawes on an import without remapping due to maps designed for 100-102 Ron fuel rather than UK superplus/optimax at 97-98; upping the boost will invariably result in det and severely shortened engine life. The unichip/scoobyecu/link etc are "proper" remaps - i.e. would alter fuelling etc. and give you a safer map with more power IMHO. Several companies who have banner adds here could possibly help - eg BR developments.

Speak to Power Engineering, Bob Rawle etc. Most have banner ads here. All will give you decent advice and a proper quote. I believe a link for a pre-98 car with all the options (knocklink, lambdalink monitoring for extra engine safety etc) and a custom map specially set up for your specific car, is £1290 from Bob looking at his website.

Not that I'm advertising, as I am currently low on stock, but have a look here anyway....http://shop.scoobynet.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductID=499
Or see http://www.scoobyecu.co.uk for my partner in crimes web-site (he may have stock).

I have some of the original 27C1028 chips kicking about, loaded with a map that I believe originated at Subaru...
It raises boost to 1 bar, adjusts fuel and timing to suit, and just transforms the car...

Depends on the mods you have, how well the current ECU is taking advantage of them, fuel used, etc. ie. no one will guarantee what performance increase a remap will give until it's done.
