legacy into impreza?
ok then call me thick but whats the difference between a 1993 legacy 2.0 turbo engine and an early import impreza wrx (93)engine,they look the same to me although i know the impreza produces more bhp.i am sure from memory there are differences internally but if you use impreza ancills is it a straight one for one fit??i have someone with a dead impreza and not much to spend.help appreciated.....

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
Heads are crap on a legacy... due to the lifters..
Pavlo or stevieturbo etc are best to answer this.

A complete impreza engine will fit straight in, with very few, if any alterations.
There are a lot of differences between the legacy and impreza, but parts interchangeability is very good.
The legacy heads arent necessarily crap, but the hydraulic lifter design does have its problems, and usually results in noisy tappets. More of an annoyance than anything.
The block/rank/rods are all the same as early impreza, with closed deck, and oil squirters. Pistons are different, but still cast items as per impreza ( excl sti which has forged )
Impreza heads are much better with bucket style hydraulic followers.
Exhaust manifolds are also different between Jap/Uk carrs bot sure how much difference they would make in a swap though.
Impreza turbocharger is much better TD05, vs Legacy IHI VF12.
Obviously the legacy runs a chargecooler instead of an intercooler, whcih may be better or worse. id say the legacy unit is better than the early impreza intercooler, which is pathetically small.
