Can someone tell me in as much detail as possible about increasing power on my94 WRX. I want to up boost, but dont know what the limit is (eg the inhibitor limit), I have a K+n induction kit on and an aftermarket exhaust of which the cat is still on the downpipe.
Im thinking of putting a decat downpipe on (*whats the best one out for the money?) and am abit worried about overboost. Its running about 0.8 bar at the moment and needs a knock sensor, to fix an engine warning light fault. Im just starting to learn about a dawes. What does one look like? How much are they? and if fitted would my car just overboost!! What are these scoobynet ECU map adapters and would one of these benifit me. Any other aditional information would be most welcome!!!

Sorry about the essay, but im only a learner, Im affraid.
Many Thanks!!

read all about the dawes here:

http://www.dawesdevices.com/boost.html

It is used to control boost so if you set it below the MY94 WRX boostcut which is about 15.5psi you will be ok....

our adaptors can be seen here.. www.scoobyecu.co.uk the documentation is also available here... Can be bought in scoobyshop or direct..

Dont need a dawes device... with one of these... and looking at the price of them its a good job

I think you should find pretty much all you need to know about the dawes here in the dawes faq

I bought a dawes device ages ago and it really is the best £50 i ever spent (performance wise, anyway).

Dead simple design and principle, and very higly regarded by thousands of very satisfied customers!

I always love watching the total professionalism of another with a vested interest in a competing product! LOL int marketing on Scoobynet brilliant!? Mind you banner ads are expensive aren't they?

Ronnie - If you need any help with the Dawes Devices or anything let me know, you are welcome to come to me and see what they are all about and I can talk you through everything you need to know.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, Dawes rock and for £50 you can't fall off!

All these people can't be wrong now can they?

It is a brilliant piece of device. But just make sure you monitor little things like fueling and knock. And just because I can run 23 psi (on my last car MY93) doesn't mean that its healthy for yours as all Subarus are different. I'm just experimenting myself on my RA.

Dawes is tried and tested the world over. Many people are very happy with the results.

I cannot comment on the adaptor as I first heard about it just last week. I have not read any testemonials or heard any reports, good or bad.

IMHO we should try and keep this objective and keep the slanging match to private email (ie offline). By all means talk about your own product (hint: banner ad), but slagging off a competitors product is a waste of everyones time.

Cheers lads most appreciate the advice. So when I get the dawes and fit a downpipe, I just set the boost by my guage to somewhere near the inhibitor and thats it!! will the ecu adapter allow me to up boost further or is 15. psi my limit without putting a performance exhaust on?

Once again thanks for the support

You are limited by the ECUs factory set fuel cut. That can be circumvented by means of a fuel cut defender but there are many people on scoobynet better qualified to comment on that than I am.

Exhaust and a freer flowing air filter will always help to increase power and responsiveness though.

hope this helps

Hmm... banner ads..?

Ok but I was told scoobyshop.. and thats what we have done..

anyway dawes for £50 (at a guess)

Adaptor board £60 (small fitting charge for wrx if you arent confident soldering a socket in)

Dawes = Raise Boost... Fuel Cut?
Board = Raise Boost, Add Fuel, Adjust timing need I go on..

Im fairly sure my car is the most powerfull uk car with std ecu and no fuel, boost controllers or bleed valves

So If you want the support of a established tuning company go with the dawes.. Suppose you get a warranty on the device. Not on your engine..

Or If you want a solution from other enthusiasts then buy ours.. we have a warranty on the board, but not on the engine either.

Id love to offer them cheaper but, we only just cover costs.
Infact the price is soon to go up

David

Does Pete Croney get upset and post replies if someone states they think a Magnex is better value than a Scoobysport....ermm No !

I think the moderators really need to sort this guy out

OK he has a banner add, but does this give him the god given right to take over this BBS with his sales pitches.

Scott, I defy you to find any sales pitch from me over the past 2 months!

I just think people with ulterior motives, should not post negative things about others, I wouldn't dream of it.

I look forward to hearing from the moderators!

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do

I think everyone's entitled to an opinion? It's clear where you're both coming from, and I can't see anything wrong with these posts...

Just a difference of opinion?

I just think that a couple of people trying to sell competing products are trying to be clever again.

I orignally came on this post because I think that by slating products on a website in order to try and sell yours is a little sad actually, but why should I be able to have an opinion either?

Paul and Scott, you both are not half as clever on the phone than you are on here anyway!

...going to do some work now! Bye nice chatting!

I agree with you Jamie. Total correct. You are entitled to your opinion, and your right to express it.

Paul and Scott, you both are not half as clever on the phone than you are on here anyway!
I see - and snide e-mails to people isn't clever either Jamie. And just when I was starting to agree with you....

Oh, and I haven't even tried to sell anything in this thread !

LMFAO...

Im not bothered whether 'I' sell anything or not... I do these as I have a personal interest in them, for the benefit of my car only...

I will never purchase a banner add because of this.. If it had to go that route then I'd not bother as I said before I do it for my car only... and pass them on to anyone else at cost.

This didnt start as a personal dig on my part anyway..

Long time no speak, Scott & Paul. Hows things?

David

Dawes is a good product, it's a manual boost controller, and that's it, if you want to fiddle with things, buy one, but you'll also need a fuel cut lifter for maximum fun. Cheaper now dawes are doing them, as the HKS one was nearly £100 in itself.

If you want a basic upgrade, then doing something with the ECU on the early cars works very well. In paticular, improvements in off boost and spool up are noticable. The later 95 WRX has a much improved map, which in modified form can be implanted into any 91-96 ECU using an adaptor board. Not only does it raise the boost, but improves on the fuel and ignition maps. Fuelling on the early WRX seems paticularly poor, probably for emissions or somesuch thing.

You pays your money and takes your choice, and I don't paticularly care where the money is spent, as any ECU stuff is just a hobby for me.

Paul
