i was drivin home tonight when i noticed my speedo had stopped working anyway decided to give it some welly and got to 4500 rpm and it cuts out and wont rev any higher, and the check engine light came on, if i change gear its fine until i hit 4500rpm again, any ideas, my check engine light is still on, also is the speedo a mechanical drive or electronic, my car is a my94 wrx,

any help would be appriciated

thanks the cable had become disconnected from a little alloy box situated just above the speedo drive on the gearbox, connected the speedo back and hey presto, thanks for the advice JGM
