Remove the ECU, switch the spark plug leads around and disconnect the fuel pump. There will be nothing for them to see visually, but it is a bit of hassle doing it all.

By the time they've worked that lot out they won't be going anywhere

However, maybe not very practical if you don't lift the bonnet often.

Question

Got to leave the car sitting with reasonably valuable luggage in for a fair while tommorow. It would be really bad timing for my car to get nicked. I have a Diskloc and a Tracker but I am paranoid as it is - probably from lurking on SN! So I was thinking it would be good if there is some quick and easy, and non mucky if possible, way of lifting the bonnet and doing something or other so it won't start? Any ideas please. Oh, and I need Muppet proof instructions as I have only lifted the bonnet twice since I got it on 1st July!!

Cheers

Matt

I did say I was paranoid!

If the car goes with the contents tomorrow it will be a very very very bad thing indeed.

Un clip the cam sensor wire (just below the alternator) on the front right towards the cambelt cover.

if you have bucket seats you might like to try this, iuse a steel cable lock for bikes and a large padlock, fold the seats foward ,loop the cable through the harness holes and into the steering wheel a couple of times ,cost about 20 quid and takes a couple of minutes, but is a pain in the **** to take off without a key. works for me so far.

I have managed to come up with a better plan. Their is now somewhere I can leave the goodies so they don't have to sit unattended in the car.

John. I know where the spark plugs are, but it is a mystery to me how the hell you get yours hands on them if you are over 5 years old

Cheers

Do momo, sparco, etc sell "snap off" wheels or did you do that yourself to any wheel?...The idea seems really interesting.

Got the 'snap off' kit from a dealer in London, had to do a bit of searching to get a good price....ended up paying about £70 for the kit.. The momo fits as standard. I think the type i got was a 'raid'

if i can find the paperwork i'll drop back and post the supplier ....but other than that i went on the net as usual and searched against 'snap off' steering wheel kits.

Demon Tweeks sell them(or did), but they wanted over £100

hope that helps

I like the idea with the seat being chained to the steering wheel. But I was told even 10 years ago, in France car thieves cut not the steering locks but the steering wheels

Red face

I left the crank sensor off and forgot that i'd done it. I really panic'd when the car wouldn't start, I nearly called Subaru Assist.

The relief when I saw what I'd done
