I know this belongs more into the ''Interior'' section, but I'm probably getting more hits here.

Still in the process in converting my Euro 99 Impreza interior to hold a double DIN unit. The job is 90% done I just have to attach the unit to the brackets inside the dashboard.

This is exactly what I tried to do yesterday but inside the dash (behind the ICE & heater controls) is a quite big metal s-shaped piece which apparently has no other function than to hold some cables running through. I tried to remove it, but the 2 screws that hold it are behind, so impossible to access without removing *everything*.

Long story, my question is, did somebody with a non-Euro Impreza ever remove his ICE unit (for replacement) and remembers seeing this big metal piece behind.
I know that between Euro and US, Japanese & Aussie there are quite alot of differences when it comes to brackets etc....
