I have noticed on occasion that the "Check Engine Light"( light on dashboard above fuel guage)on a Japanese MY02 STI comes on momentarily at times during hard acceleration through the gears.

I noticed it illuminate a couple of times today while doing some spirited driving...on my own private road of course

Is this normal?

 

Is it normal?, well yes cause the CEL always comes on in these cars, but usually because some thing is wrong. I would get it put on a diagnostic machine to see what the problem is.

When you say "always comes on" do you mean that it briefly illuminates if there is a problem, or does it stay ON permantely if there is a problem? I will have it checked none the less.
