Question

Anyone got any experience of one of these?

http://www.rev-lite.com/flat.html

On the surface it seems to be excellent value - but does it do what it claims to do - are their any CONs as appossed to the PROs they claim?

Cheers,

Chris

Chris,
I've messed about with similar ideas in the past and the hardest part to set up is the clutch switch point. If it looks for a switch input on the clutch pedal before reinstating full power then its quite complicated. If you look when you perform an almost 'flat' shift yourself in the car, you've got the power back on before the clutch is fully released and then after only depressing it probably 25% max to unload the syncros.
You could end up with a longer, more jerky shift by trying to use this type of system.
Could be talking boll*x and this system might be spot on of course....

Things are going ok. Just saving pennies to get the 'silver smoker' back on the track next year. Managed to strip the teeth off 3rd gear a few weeks ago passing a truck. Ouch!
Still tweaking the ECU to extract more go. Water injection with 50/50 methanol mix does wonders, together with ALS that is.....
I see that you and Scott have been chatting about various options with the performance gained from mods to the standard maps. Sounds like you've been making some progress.

Is the impact/stress on the other components (gearbox, drivetrain, etc.) any different to a normal flat out (i.e. manual) pull off?

Exclamation

Is 20ft of flame on full-throttle gearchanges really worth an engine rebuild?

Thumbs down

From my experience, running launch control on tarmac is a transmission killer. and as for flat shift, on a standard box, nope! it just wont last!

Cheers all.

I'm convinced - knew it was too good to be true.

Maybe after I uprated the clutch, gear box, moved to a closed deck block with uprated conrods etc

The car is a modified early WRX. Still trying to sort out a FMIC so the Water injection is needed to keep plenum temps down to a reasonable level. Also as a detonation suppressant as its running high compression with 1.7bar boost.
