Rolling Road Results - my MY01/PPP
#1
Got my scoob dynoed at Prosport this morning. Personally I'm a little disappointed with the bhp figure though torque is respectable. Thought I'd post the graph here and see what people think.
It's an MY01 wagon with PPP, running Esso SUL, and 8K on the clock.
BTW it was my first trip to Prosport and was I very impressed with the operation.
Any comments on the figures??

Figures do look low for a PPP MY01, when i had PPP fitted to my old MY01, i was unimpressed with the results, after a few trips been garages it turned out the PPP ECU was faulty and the restictor had been forgotten ( new restictor is fitted to increase boost pressure as part of PPP ).
When the PPP first came out for the MY01 last year there were many different power figures being quoted for standard and modified PPP MY01's, in the end i organised a rolling road day to get as many MY01's together at the same place and time for some definate answers. The results can be seen here... Rolling Road Results

Simon,
Thanks for the reply. I can imagine it's easy to see if the restrictor is fitted, but what is involved in determining if the ECU is faulty? Is this something a dealer can confirm, or do you think it'd have to go back to Prodrive?
The top line of my torque curve is also very uneven compared to other graphs I've seen. I wonder if there's some underlying problem...
Cheers,
Gareth

Gareth, i had my dealer change ECU's with another PPP car, the difference was immediately noticeable.
The standard WRX also has a restrictor fitted , the hole in the restrictor for the PPP is slightly smaller to increase pressure (i THINK the hole size for the PPP restrcitor is 1.25mm )

Gareth,
Complain as much as possible to the dealer who fitted it and to Prodrive etc. Phone, email and snail mail your complaint.
A mate with a my01 PPP had a similar prob, I was as quick as him in my my02WRX with ITG filter and TSL BB!
He complained to his dealer & Prodrive who then had the car back in to the dealers. The restrictor hadn't been fitted and the ECU was replaced with a unit direct from Prodrive.
The difference after this was amazing!
I'd like to bet there are a few cars out there with similar probs.
Not saying its a fault with Prodive, more to do with un-educated dealers.
Imagine the scenario: Guy fitting a PPP for the first time, he gets this little brass(?) restrictor in his hand, looks at it, see's the original one fitted, thinks to himself "dont need this its got one already" and chucks the restrictor into his toolbox.
This type of thing is more common than you'd think, and I'm not just talking Subaru garages. I worked in the motor trade for many years so I've seen it first hand.
Good luck

I'm taking it up with the dealer tomorrow. As it is Robinsons I would ***hope*** that they will deal fairly with me and not try to fob me off.
Have you got a good contact name/email address at Prodrive?

Hi,
My car goes in next week to get checked over. Can anybody tell me if there is a visible difference in the Prodrive 1.25mm restrictor compared to the original item (like a stamp or something)? It just occurred to me that spotting a 0.05mm difference in diameter is going to be a touch tricky...
Thanks,
Gareth

Another factor could be your engine is still not that loose yet.
Believe me I noticed the difference after 10,000. I'm notw at 44k and I swear the engine loosened up again!

MATTeL,
I know what you're saying - when I had my MY99 it was like someone flicked a switch at 10K and the lights came on! This is why I didn't bother with the rolling road until I'd got a good few miles on (9K).
But, a lot of the figures I've seen for PPP'd MY01s on here beat my own on lower mileage.
Cheers,
Gareth
