I have a 98 uk turbo which is under extended warranty from the dealer.

Is it worth paying to extend the warranty after the year runs out or do i chance nothing going wrong? has anyone any experience....

Also, my offside rear bearings are whining, are these covered under the existing warranty?

I extended mine on my previous car. Went in for cam belt service and was told they had to replace the tensioner. From memory this was about £300. This was done under warranty so it paid for itself immediately.
I would be surprised if you managed to get the wheel bearings replaced under warranty as these are probably regarded as wear and tear items, in much the same way as brake pads etc. No harm asking though, particularly if you are about to give them a load of money to extend the warranty.

As above - you'd struggle to get wheel bearings covered.

If you can afford to extend the proper warranty I would do. Saved me £2000 for a new short engine on my 99MY.

As with any insurance its peace of mind versus sod's law !

I talked Babber into extending the warranty on my old RB5 ( MY99 )
He extended it while having the big cambelt service and also needed the tensioner which paid for the warranty immedietly.

He was well chuffed I kept on at him. IMHO its well worth the money for peace of mind and a good selling point aswell.

In its 4th year (so far) my standard turbo has had 4th and 5th synchro go, a leaking rear damper and the main gearbox oil seal all done under warranty. Thank god or whoever that I took out the extended warranty or I'd have been looking at ?£2k+ bill.....

My previous turbo also had synchro go in its 4th year (no warranty + clutch and flywheel £1500), I'd stick with the warranty, Imprezas are not always as "bullet proof" as the media suggests
