Changed the plugs for the first time on the Type R last night since having it and all seemed to be a lovely colour.

The only noticeable issue was that the rear near side plug was really really worn. The Gap was massive in comparison to all the others.

Is this the famous area for running hot etc etc

The plugs were 6Bs that came out and I have put 7Bs in. Will this be enough.

I have two friends (MY00 & Forester GT) with the same problem, I don't know if it's normal but usualy Nr3 cylinder is hoter than the others as is closer to the up pipe and turbo! IMVHO is common problem in all Impreza.

Rear nearside is no 4 not no 3 which is "supposed" to run hot but which I've not found particular evidence of. Which Type R is it ? PFR7B's should sort it if used for road etc ... a single plug like that could be due to "det" though as a "bad" plug will misfire and generate local heat.

Bob

Its a version 5.

The car was hesitating and misfiring when cold but ran OK when it was warmed up.

The cold thing was due to the plug that was a problem, I suspect it just cooked itself, I've been having a similar issue myself and have had to resort to racing plugs to resolve, the PFR7B's should be fine, suggest removing and checking after say 1500 miles, I wouldn't expect to find a problem though.

Then Bob is 0,7 mm the right gap for a modified MY00 (full decated+VF29+uprated TMIC) running 17-17,5 psi boost with PFR7B?
Cheers
JIM

By the way, I misunderstood, nearside for us is the other way.
