is their any way of checking a coil pack on a my94 WRX to see if its faulty?

scoobybuzz - that is a really useful thread, I read all 6 pages last sunday morning as I had the same prob. I have just cured mine & it was plugs & coil packs.
Also check out the last half of this thread:

Problem is you need a working set of coil packs to try as they are £50 each unless you order from JGM 2's thread.....uprated ones @ less half the price.
