Handbrake adjustment- inside or under?
#3
The handbrake adjuster is at the back of the handbrake lever,if you move the rubber gator over you can see the 10mm nut's on the passenger side of the lever, remember that the top nut is a locking nut.If you cant adjust it from there you will have to remove the surround from the handbrake, dont panic its a doddle it takes about 5 mins to remove the plastic surround and make the adjustment.

IIRC, the adjusters in the drums are set to automatically compensate for pad wear whereas the adjuster at the handbrake is there to adjust for cable stretch... so I would leave the drum adjusters alone unless you are changing the pads.
Be careful not to over tighten the cable. One company once over tightened mine which left the pads dragging as I drove the car home... not at all nice for the drums, pads and hub assembly. Ho hum.

ok what model impreza is it if you have drums on the rear then yes they do adjust themselves but if you have discs then they are manual adjusters which you should always do first before doing the incar adjuster, other wise there will always be tension on the cables which is not good for them instead of using the adjusting mechanisim to take the tension.

they do toneloc but the adjuster is not self adjusting, to get at it you have to take the disc off, or if you jack the wheel up look on the back of the back plate and at the bottom there is an oblong rubber grommet take this out and just to the side of the hole there is an arrow stamped in to the backplate.
if you look through the hole with a torch you will see the adjuster and the arrow shows the direction to move the adjuster to tighten it up (i think it shows the arrow pointing up) so using a flat blade screwdriver push the adjuster around untill it locks the wheel then back it off a notch at a time until the wheel moves freely.
sorry to cause any confusion about adjusters on the calipers
