Hi all,
(No response from Elec forum )
Got an Autometer AFM and going to do it this weekend. After reading a monster thread on this by Paul Wadams and John Banks, I have decided to go for:
Sensor - ECU
Ground - ECU
Live - ? Dont know!
Anyone like to advise? Can I use the ECU for this too? And which wire is it?
Many thanks,
MB

How about the cigarette lighter?
How did you tie into it...solder? Also, will I get electrocuted or do I disconnect the battery first?!
Apologies but I can barely wire a plug...

Not sure about using the *** lighter. Providing it is a switched positive feed (which I imagine it is) then you should be ok. One way to test is to see if you can heat it up without the electrics on (I've never tried cos I don't smoke ).
I soldered mine to make sure I had a very good contact. You could use scotch blocks, or normal connecting blocks, but you will get a better contact with soldering (I think).
I didn't disconnect the battery, but I did remove the relevant fuse from the box inside the car (on the right of the wheel behind small openable oddments holder in my MY00). Stopped any electricity running up my fingers

Thanks for that.
Do you agree with my earth choice? Some were saying use the battery. Does your AFR give you useful info?
Sorry for all the Q's!

I would use the battery. My AFR is earthed on a strip earth that I made that includes the earth for my gauges. When I turn my lights on though, I get a bad earth on the AFR and it causes it to underread. It's fine when my lights aren't on. I've checked the voltage coming in and that is still OK.
Haven't got round to re-routing the earth though. I've got my AFR switchable on and off as well so that the lights don't annoy me
No probs with the questions, better to be safe than sorry
Edit : forgot to answer your useful info question. Yes it does give useful info, particularly when adding modifications. I only tend to use it now though if I have changed something, or doing a spot check to make sure it's still running nice and rich. Mine runs rich enough at WOT through the gears so I'm happy that it isn't leaning out.
