Question

I noticed a few weeks ago that a scraping/squeaking noise coming from the front of the car. It started after a spirited drive down from Perth late at night.

You notice the noise when moving and up to 40mph. It's not constant, but once every revolution of the wheel.

What's the common causes? warped brakes, something stuck between pad and disk, wheel bearing ?

I think it's on both fronts, although can't be sure 100%.

Sounds like the same noise mine was making a couple of weeks ago. Rotational squeaking started on my way home after a hard drive over the back roads, lots of braking. Must have been something to do with the brakes overheating. Noise was gone when I took car back out again few hours later.

Hmm, it hasn't went away on mine though. The Dealers checking them, so I'll wait and see.

Cheers,

Had this problem once, it turned out the metal shield on the inside of the brake disk had been bent in a little, and rubbed on the outside of the disk. took me ages to figure it out, hanging out the door while driving slowley etc !!

Sometimes it can just be worn brake pads that don't get pushed away from the disc properly.

Some disk brake pads have a little metal strip that pops out when they are worn. They then emit a scrapinp noise to warn you.
I was unaware of this when it first happened and thought I had a problem with the diff!!
Almost certainly it's a similar problem on your car.

The brakes have been sounding awful under heavy braking, so I did think they had seen their best.

I'd better check with the Dealer that they won't just fit some some OEM pads.

Well turns out the discs/pads need a good clean to sort out the noise. Trouble is there's only a nads baw hair of pad left on them. And to add insult to injury, the discs are needing the bin as well as the rear pads.

So, looks like I'm needing some front pads/discs and rear pads.

Gonna be an expensive month me thinks

Depending on the year of your car, there are some EBC Turbo groove discs & pads for sale in the for sale section, Maybe worth a look.
