Question

I picked up a 2000 Turbo at the weekend, with Scoobysport rear silencer on it. And it sounds loverly.

However, I want MORE. I see they do a de-cat centre section, and with the original downpipes it'll still pass emissions test.

Anyone have any thoughts on if I put the Prodrive high-performance cat in place of the original downpipe. Would this still pass emissions? Is it even a ood idea to mix and match the prodrive and scooby sport parts?

Would I be better off getting the prodrive rear silencer and high performance cat, or the scoobysport de-cat mid section to match up with my rear silencer?

Also, how much of a good idea is superchips.co.uk They state an addition 40bhp!! What about torque? Same question for the Prodrive ECU re-map.

Cheers

Superchips is ok at £511, but I've found a better alternative which I will consider when I get mine remapped.
its a fully remappable Apexi ECU for £750. I saw it advertised in some Jap performance mag. Can't remember which one.

DBT,

Come down to the Halfway House on Sept 12th, and you'll get more advice than you'll know what do do with.
In the meantime, call or drop in and see the lads at Scoobysport, who can't be far away from you, and they'll walk you through most of the options.

Cool

Some get there at 6.30 for food, most are there by 7.30 ish.

Last month was a great turnout, everything from 22b to WRX RA to some rusty cr@pheap of a silver wagon! Be there!!

sounds cool. I'll be one of the 7.30 lot.

btw, anyone know of any garages other than the Esso on the A127 Southend bound, just after Walrey turnoff and the Texaco just before the fortune of war on the same side of the carriageway that sells Super Unleaded, as these are the only two I've found in the immediate Laindon area.

Is Texaco's superplus 97 or 98 RON, it don't say on the pump!?

Go into wickford, they have a BP there. Also, you have a BP at the end of cranes farm road.
Its crap that we don't have any shell garages apart from rayleigh isnt it. You'd think with their new optimax stuff they'd make enough profit to buy some garages!

i know the one in Wickford.

Cranes Farm Road is handy, as I'm looking at a new flat in the area.

Would like to try that Optimax. Although Little Miss WRX (I think) said on another thread that she didn't like the stuff. Didn't burn right or summat. Wierd.

Cheers

Question

Is there much difference between a Scoobysport back box, and a Prodrive example? I appreciate that alone they won't gain you much performance, but is there much difference in exhaust note and volume?

I test drove an MY99 with Prodrive backbox, which is a more oval shape than the Scoobsport one I've got.
The exhaust note isn't too different, but I prefer the scoobysport one, it's a deeper, more throaty sound I LOVE it. Even without the de-cat downpipes my niece could hear me from the back garden the other day when I came home and the engine was only idling!

tek2 performance remap looks like a good idea, when I've had my scoobysport downpipes add to my scoobysport silencer. (Been speaking to Pete Croney at scoobysport, helpful man!)

Also thinking of ITG Air Filter and Forge dump valve.

Thoughts? Theories? Experiences?

Downpipe and mid thoughts here.
I do have a forge dv myself and IMO it did improve getting back on the power after a gearchange. However it's mostly noise. You would be better using the search engine on this widely discussed subject.
I have a K&N 57i cone, and as yet have had no problems. Of all the induction kits this seems the safest. What year is your car? There are issues with the MAF on 99/00 cars so if you are one of these you may want to stay safe with the itg. But like i say i have a K&N on a MY99.

I have a K&N induction kit on my MY00 and haven't had any problems with the dreaded MAF, K&N are the safest bet to minimise MAF damage IMHO.

Question

DBT,

Sorry to bang on about this, but still wondering how your car puts out 260bhp? If it started as a standard UK car, with say 210bhp, how did the exhaust and induction add 50bhp? I must be missing something. Are you sure your engine hasn't had some other sort of upgrade?
I'm not doubting it's 260, it's just that my perception of what an exhaust and induction can do to a stock car will change dramatically if this is indeed the case. Did you get the power measured on the same dyno before the mods? Cheers,

Terry

I've only got a scooby sport silencer at the moment. I have no idea what the power output is, and haven't made any claims as to 260.
Like you say, I'd guess around 210 (what does the end can add?)

You've confused me now!

MAF = Mass air flow sensor???????????? i think. It's the black plastic tube thing with wires coming out of it between the airbox and the engine.

so what problems can induction kits (although not K&N it would seem from brun and iceman's experience!) cause with the MAF?
