Dawes Device. Do i need a boost gauge as well??
I am contemplating fitting a dawes device to give the old girl a bit more poke.
The question is do i need a boost gauge as well to set the boost level or is the unit calibrated to give a certain increase per turn of the screw?
Any comments appreciated.

You need one to set up the dawes, which means you could go to your dealer to set up the dawes, borrowing his boost gauge. That would save you the moneu for a boost gauge.
Although I have to say I would fit one to monitor the boost at all times and to fiddle around with the dawes until I get the best setup

Cheers Guy's.
I have ordered an HKS boost gauge to assist with set up, not sure the dealer would appreciate what i am doing!
so best not take it there.
Still looking for some advice as to what level of boost i can run once i get it set up without melting my pistons.

Subfreak,
Do you find it has made a lot of difference over the std performance. Incendently i am runinng decat centre, TSL back box and ITG panel filter.
Thanks for the info on the Boost Level.

I've just fitted Dawes to mine & set it at 1.3 bar. As well as boost guage I've also fitted an air/fuel ratio meter so I know if it's running too lean.
Mine's a 1994 & I also had to fit a Dawes fuel cut-out raiser as it used to cut the fuel at 1.05 bar & this has overcome that.
I recommend you only make small adjustments at a time when setting boost (& fuel cut out raiser if fitted) as over-zealous boost could easily end in (expensive) tears.

just to say that the lamda on my MY95 WRX gives a lower voltage when running lean, so unless they've changed lamda sensors I'd be more inclined to say that any value under 0.89 (or any start value you see fit to say is OK - I think 0.87 is fine but what do I know
) would mean its running lean

Yes it made an improvement over standard, noticibly more in the mid range.Running 16.5psi would give on average around 15 bhp.The dawes works well with your setup but would be much better with downpipe decat! But be warned it made my car very noisey after fitting downpipe.(but well worth it)
