How does the boost solenoid actually work??
#2
opens/closes at a rate of about 13 times a second (I think) the ecu decides how long to keep it open for each cycle. All the time it's open, pressure to the wastgate actuator (bit that controls the amount of boost the turbo makes) is bled off, so boost goes up.

Thanks for the reply
Doesn't the turbo solely rely on the actuator for boost pressure?? Am i correct in saying its like a boost controller/bleed valve, bleeding off excess air to increase/decrease boost then.
Therefore installing a dawes will make this unit almost obsolete???

100% correct in every way.
but ecu will complain if it thinks solenoid is gone, so replace with a simple resistor to stop engine check light.
Peformance Exhausts sell the dawes and they should be able to give you plenty of help, I know for a fact it was fitted to their own Sti7
