Hi all,

Just managed to squeeze my Blitz SUS with alloy bends into the front wing. The mounting is low in the wing and directly in-line with the air intakes on my STiV front bumper. I am wondering if I will encounter any problems due to water or other debris through the choose of my mounting position.

Of course I need to avoid deep puddles

It's position will definitely pick up cooler air and is very quiet !!

Any thoughts??

Have you accounted for an easy escape route for water if it does get in?? Dont know wether it would draw it up from there.

Um, I think you might want to shift it up a tad... The APS one (I recon a good one to pay attention to!) has the filter quite high up - there is no 'direct' way that water could hit it, and I think with good reason! Obviously, driving through a ford (water or 'car' type ) isn't a good move, but - especially with the 'free-flowing' style Blitz, I think there's a good chance great gobs of water could work their way through, followed by a big bang & some abrubt slowing & a big bill.

Forgot to say my brother in law put his filter low to ground(effectively what you have done) on his 25 diesel. He went through a reasonable puddle when i was chucking it down. Water got in and it bent something in the engine. Think it was the conrods?

I have a blitz SUS and was thinking of doing the same... the problem with the filter is its size and making it higher could be a prob....

Have you got any pics of how you did it mate... i would love to see them.... so i can see if its possible for me to do it...

Dan..

Red face

Be vey careful with that, I had my 'vent' attached to cold feed into engine bay and onto filter...when my MAF finally gave up, I removed it all to change the sensor...I found 2 wheelbarrows full of 'grit' sent up under high pressure into the air intake

IT WILL TAKE WATER INTO THE FILTER!

Blitz does not filter at all well ... scary how much it lets through. If its that low and you go thro any standing water that gets in there it will end up in your engine ... you would not believe the effect ... snapped con rods, big hole in block etc.

If you fit a filter in there then it must be installed well away from the grill in the lower wing area.

I practice you gain very little as when moving along the ambient temp in the area that a filter sits in under bonnet is only a couple of degrees above the inner wing, you do get a quicker heat soak effect in traffic.

Thanks for the good advice all,

Should have mentioned I am not using a STD ecu so air filtration is less of an issue where the MAF is concerned.

I have looked at mounting the filter high and it will go higher but due to the 2 intakes in the STiV a fair bit of water will enter the inner wing space during heavy rain.

Therefore I have moved it back where it should be. After taking the inner wing air box out for what it's worth I did fit a pipe to collect air from the upper bumper air scoop and direct it towards the filter in its STD position.

One thing I would ask is surely even in the std position a fair amount of water must hit and pass through the filter membrane during heavy rain??? The BLITZ filtration medium large in mesh size and water is not stopped at all, I tried spraying water onto it as a test. So I am asking if some water reaches the internals or not ???

Cheers,

Joules
