Red face

Hi. Broke down last night - engine started, but then died immediately. Nice man from AA refused to be beaten though. We tested the connector to the coil pack, had power. Tested the injectors, had power. Took out two plugs on passenger side, they had sparks, but were bone dry. Took off fuel pipe, fuel in said pipe, but not being pumped through. Heave out boot and took off oval plate above fuel pump. Tested plug under ignition turn over, and found power to pump plug. Problem seems to lie in fuel pump, either mech' or electrical. Any ideas other than this - any cut outs or such. Any suggestions on sourcing new/used pump. Model is WRX IMPORT - MY '94. No problems up to now - still a top motor.
Cheers, Gonzo.

Check the connector plug to the pump. The pump uses a lot of current and we have seen oxidised connectors in this plug.

Question

Checked fuel pump last night, and it works. I'm thinking now that the AA guy could possibly have got a reading off the sender wire, rather than the pump feed. Can anyone tell me exactly where the relay for the fuel pump is, or better still, give me a link to a wiring diagram for a 94 wrx. Many thanks, Gonzo.

OK then. Rechecked feed last night and decided it was intermittant. Rewired from plug connection under rear seat to fuel pump and got her running. Hopefully all is now well and good. If anyone finds this thread in the future, feel free to e-mail me for any help or advice. A big thank you to those that helped with info.
Cheers, Gonzo.

If this is occuring the fuel pump will need to be replaced. You will find if you take it out to test it may work fine. But under load is a different story.
