Piston Slap - Are Dealers Supposed to Fix This?
#1
Basically if you had a car with PS are the dealers obligated to sort this? Car has FFSH but is a high miler (UK97 80K) and was wondering if this should have been fixed by the dealer.
Bet there no chance of getting it done now! ;->
Cheers,
Rob

Managed to get mine fixed
Basically, warranties don't come into it as it's a know manufacturers fault.
Do what i did and argue it with IM, remember it's a known manufacturing fault!!!
Good luck

Iain, did you actually get it fixed with no warranty? I too would love a bit more info about this as mine is suffering quite badly, and is also an MY97 (60k). I was a bit reluctant to pay for this myself; if I can get a dealer to do it that would be a result! How did you approach this, did you ring the local dealer up and say "please fix my slapper"?
Also, does servicing make a difference, as mine has had a couple of specialists service it over the years, due to poor quality Subaru dealers?

When I bought my CAT a couple of months ago my97, they noticed Piston Slap and got it fixed for me for nowt as you would expect. The dealer said Sub are pretty good with things like that and if you do thiungs by the book full subaru history etc there are ussually ok about it. They said they got it fixed under the original warranty which expired a couple of years ago ?!?!??

Mine had 70K on the clock with full subaru history etc.
I just argued the fact that it was a known manufacturing defect and therefore warranties didn't come into the equation.

Many places will though (& the customer service is lots better !)
FYI - Piston slap on imports costs a lot more to cure than slap on a UK car - something to do with no.3 piston being different.
From memory its something like £250 more to fix it on an import.

Give Scoobysport a call - cant remember exactly how much they quoted me a while ago but it was much much cheaper than that.....from memory (so could be completely wrong) they quoted me around £650.....& they needed the car for 3 days.
A handy "VIZ" style hint.....if you are having the piston slap sorted & are considering getting a downpipe fitted then get the pipe fitted at the same time as the slap is sorted....it saves a load of money on labour as the downpipe comes off anyway when the slap is being fixed.
